Take Your Child To Work Day.

I'm a little late in posting this, but I had a great time on "Take Your Child to Work Day" this year. Of course, as you can see, I didn't take my OWN child. My kids went to work with their dad (according to them, his job is a lot more fun than mine, psshhht.). Miss Erika's dad has a cool job, but was working from home this particular day, so I invited her to join me. Erika is the same age as my middle son, I've been her team manager for DI for a few years, and I'm good friends with her mom.

I found it beyond adorable to see she'd given herself a
tattoo that matched mine!

Erika in action.

Some of her photos from our time taking photos at a local park.
She edited these herself too!

Portland Newborn Photographer | Lifestyle Newborn Session.

As some of you may know, I "quit" doing newborn sessions a
couple of years ago.I just felt the the posed naked baby stuff was not my style and I wasn't being true to the artist in me, so I took a break.

Well, I've figured out my style in regards to newborns and am now
accepting clients again! I will be offering black & white lifestyle
sessions only.If you are interested in booking a
newborn session, please contact me BEFORE your baby is born.

I am so honored to have been able to photograph this new family. I was scheduled to photograph their birth, but an emergency c-section prevented me from getting there in time. So, to be able to photograph their
son this way was awesome.

This little guy was crazy-cute with loads of blond hair. He was very mellow and content, which just made my job so much easier. Not to mention their adorable basset Hound, Edmond, who got in a few shots.

Salem Photographer | 10 mile project.

The concept is simple. Drive 10 miles from your house or your place
of employment and take a photo. Preferably an interesting one. Well, I
drove 10 miles and ended up in a boring suburban neighborhood, so I took
a photo of the most interesting thing I could find. Maybe next time
I won't wait until the last minute!

Now, CLICK HERE to check out the 10 mile blog post

Salem Photographer | From my yard to yours.

These were all taken with the "reverse lens macro" method.
If you are interested in trying it, you simply remove the lens from your camera, turn it around and place it back up to your camera backwards. I used my 50mm lens, but it works with other lenses too. You can even mount the lens backwards if you get an adapter. Click HERE to see an example of the mounting ring, as well as read some more tips on how to do reverse lens macro.
Your depth of field is CRAZY small and you have no control over it, so you'll need to remain as still as possible.

Salem Photographer| Life Stories: The story of my first born.

Welcome to Life Stories, a monthly blog circle among photographers. Make sure that you click on the link at the end of this post to visit the next photographer's blog and see their life stories post.

I was 40 weeks and 1 day pregnant with my first child.
My water broke at about 4am.
After about 18 hours of labor, followed by a c-section,
~Kayden Ecco Ward~
was born at 9:49pm in La Grande, OR.

He was 8 pounds, 4 ounces, and 22 inches long.

We expected our baby to be bald or to have red or blonde hair, but much to our surprise he was born with a full head of dark  hair. He's the only baby of our three that looked like himself from the very beginning. Meaning, if you look at baby pictures of the other two, there's little to no resemblance to them now. Kayden, however, is easy to identify in all of his baby photos.

Please excuse the poor quality of these photos.

And here his now...THIRTEEN YEARS OLD!
He is smart, compassionate, artistic, nice, and funny.
He is into drawing, listening to music, playing the bass clarinet, hanging out with friends, and loves to play dodgeball.
