Confusion in the yard.

Just one simple image today.
I took this in my front yard yesterday. Apparently my daffodil bulbs did not get the "it's still winter" memo! These started popping up around New Years! Crazy!

What I've been up to!

I am happy to announce that Kel Ward Photography now offers
boudoir sessions!

Check out the new boudoir blog!

The best way is to book a boudoir photo party with a
group of your friends! Boudoir parties are held in beautiful hotel suites with separate rooms for the photos sessions. If you are interested in booking a boudoir session or

Little Hudson, 7 months old

Mr. Hudson is just the cutest thing ever! He was all smiles and giggles...until the camera came out. He really is a happy little guy, but was just mesmerized by the camera! His mom said he does it with all electronics...phones, cameras, etc. Too funny!
.
.
As a thank you to my clients I will be rewarding each client a free 8x10 print for every 25 comments that they get on their blog post! So, leave a comment for Hudson and his mommy will get to choose a free 8x10 print!

I love baby feet!

My little clarinetist

Really, you just don't mess with a boy and his clarinet.
Practicing a few tunes outdoors.
Looking too cool for his own good.
Gotta love a little sun flare!
At first glance this is just a boring shot of a kid playing the clarinet, but look at the shadows on the reflector off to the right! How funny is that?!

Client Display...work that mantle!

This display photo was sent to me by Amy, an awesome
client and friend.
Amy put the two largest photos (16x24) on top since those are the furthest away when standing in front of the fireplace.
Then she filled an entire row with 11x14 prints.
On the mantle she has a mix of 5x7 and 8x10 prints, in both color and black & white. The top two rows of prints are mounted hung using 3M picture hanging strips. The photos on the mantle are framed.

What to wear - simple, but not boring!

If you have a difficult time putting together a family wardrobe, try keeping it simple with black, white, and a vibrant color as your accent. Nobody needs to wear the same thing. In fact, this is a great way to let each family member show off their own style while still looking like everyone belongs together in the same family portrait!
This was our family portrait last year. We used this on our holiday cards.
Obviously we used blue as our accent color, but don't forget to throw some grays in the mix too! Accessories help dress up a portrait too, like hats and jewelry.

This was our second choice. Same idea and similar outfits, but with green as our accent color.
In the end we used blue because it popped more from the greenery in the background, but green is a great color in the winter months when nature is so brown and dull.

Client Display

I would like to start showing displays that my clients have in their homes. I love seeing what they do with their portraits and fine art, as well as give other clients ideas for their own homes!
.
.
If you are one of my clients and have a display you would like to share, please email me some photos! They do not need to be high quality photos. Cell phone snapshots will do just fine!
.
.
These photos were submitted by Michiko, one of my awesome clients and friends
(who I actually met when she hired me almost 2yrs ago)!

Michiko found a way to display 5x7 images in a small area of her hallway. She used a wrought iron wall sculpture to help fill the space. I tell my clients that small prints, such as 5x7s should only be displayed on your walls if it's in an area that you're forced to view them closely. This is a perfect example. These aren't viewed from across the room, but from just a few inches away.
Michiko ties all of her photos together (even those from other photographers and fine art prints) by having similar mattes and frames and using all black & white photos.
I love this area in Michiko's house. It's intimate, cozy, and adorable!
You may recognize the red chairs and the zebra bench, as I've used them all in photo sessions!
Many people ask me if they can display photos over televisions. It really depends on the room, the wall space, but Michiko has done it and it looks great!
Thanks, Michiko, for sharing your wall displays with us!

A beautiful January morning.

Like I said, I'm going to try and do more "art on the side" stuff this year.
The light this morning was just too irresistible. It was practically magical to me.
I took these all shortly after 9am.
.
.
.
This was taken in ny driveway. I wish I could have done this light more justice
because it was totally 3-D and amazing in person!

These were taken with my Lensbaby (hence, the distorted focus).
I love that this one tree had a little bit of autumn clinging on for dear life!

Photography Resolutions

In addition to personal resolutions, I have a few related directly to my photography.

1. Do more photo walks because I love them.

2. Take more candid shots of my kids.

3. Learn how to use CS5 to it's full potential.

4. Show more art in local shows.

5. Shoot more film.

6. Learn studio lighting, even though I don't like it.

7. Display more of my photography in my home.

8. Spend more time with my clients.

9. Rock my new fisheye lens.

10. Hire another photographer (Azure Marie) to do our family photos this summer.

My baby is five today!

Five years ago today I gave birth to a 9 pounds, 5 ounce baby boy in Texas (that's right, there's a texan in a house full of people born in Oregon)! Our little (okay, not so little) Oscar completed our family and has made us laugh and smile every day for the last 5yrs.
.
.
He's trying to look like a tough rockstar in this shot.
Rock on!
My husband has blue eyes and I have green eyes. My older two kids both have blue eyes, but it seems that Oscar's are turning green...like his mama's!
Don't you just love this chubby cheeked smile?
Walking down our road.

Bow tie by Baby Cupcake Clothing Company.
It's Mr. Sock Monkey's birthday too.
Being silly.
I'm not really a fan of sayings like this, but it seemed to fit the photo perfectly.
Happy 5th Bithday, Oscar!
I love you!

Mama got a new lens!

I have been wanting a fisheye lens for freaking ever and finally bought one! It arrived yesterday and I couldn't help but take a few snaps within minutes after opening the box.
